Komiža is my favourite place on the Adriatic. Without exaggeration, anyone who sees Komiža, will always return to this magical place.
Vis is the only island still undiscovered by tourists. Due to its location, entrance to the Adriatic, the island has been isolated for a long time by the army.
View on Komiža
Once fishing village, now town, Komiža is situated on the western side of the island in naturally protected bay. The bay is looking on the small islands of Biševo and Svetac.
Biševo is famous for natural blue grotto which is even more beautiful than the Grotta azzurra on Capri, a must for the visitors, sailors and anyone passing through Komiža.
Ancient streets of Komiža
Komiža is famous for its beaches, history, wines, food, customs, just about everything.
WHEN TO VISIT KOMIŽA
Season is high from June to September, especially popular among boaters in August. I would recommend June, it’s warm enough for beach and quite enough for exploring the island. Clean and natural beaches are blessings of Komiža’s. Pebbly beaches are within walking distance from centre which is suitable for guests without cars . Regular bus line and private taxis connect Komiža with Vis (ferry and catamaran port) and other picturesque villages on the island.
Modra špilja / Blue cave
Komiža and its surroundings has some of the best beaches on the island of Vis. Beaches around Komiža are among the most beautiful ones on the island of Vis, also in that area there is a large number of beaches. There is no place in Dalmatia that has so many beautiful beaches so close to town, hotel and accommodation in general. So if you are travelling without car Komiža is the place for you.
Typical Komiža beach is pebble beach, with shade and crystal clear sea. As Komiža overlooks open sea , fresh sea water is constant.
Many of these beaches have drinking water that provide refreshment even in the hottest summer days. Some of these beaches are very isolated and difficult to access, making them ideal destinations for nudist, people with pets and romantic couples who are looking for their own little part of paradise.
Gusarica beach – largest pebble beach in front of hotel Biševo surrounded by pine trees, tamaris and Church od St.Mary also known as Gusarica. Beach is suitable for children and disabled persons. Beach has all facilities as changing rooms, toilets, showers, several bars with coffee, refreshment drinks, ice-cream etc.
Lučica is another Komiža centrally located beach. Lučica means port so in front of beach there are several boat bonds. Beach is equipped with showers, changing cabins and a bar. Not to forget beach has crystal clear water and is favourite among locals, also is suitable for kids.
Kamenice beach is one of the most popular beaches in Komiža especially among youth. Kamenice is within 20 minutes’ walk from town, close to former fish process factory. Beach is pebble; orientation is towards west so it has excellent sunsets. Even when season is high beach is not crowded, has showers, bar with turn into disco bar at night. Kamenice beach is a place to visit during night and day.
Stiniva beach is the best European beaches in 2016, here is the picture of the miracle. Just have a look and imagine its beauty.
